I know I will be upgrading before too long to the D700 or D3 but I have to say that I have fully enjoyed my move to digital and my investigation with the D40x. Without it I wouldn't have decided to go pro. It has actually done quite well for me and more than paid for itself.

I would actually consider this an architectural shot rather than a landscape, although the boundaries between those things can get fairly blurred at times.

The thing that immediately jumps out at me is the blown-out sky. That's not automatically a problem for me, especially in a black and white image. There doubtlessly wasn't any detail there I'm missing out on. However, the rest of the image is fairly low-oppose, with the exception of the out-facing sides of the bridge, their reflections, and the -- again-- blown out testament of the sky.

I'd say try to boost the contrast in the rest of the image if possible. In Collar NX, I'd do an initial black and white conversion applied with paravent opacity locally. Not sure what editor you're using. Or, try shooting at a various time of day, when more light is hitting the other parts of the scene.

As to layout -- it's not bad, but what are you accomplishing with this com position? What are you showing us? Is it just about the shapes entangled with? If so, might there be a better position to emphasize them? (I'm thinking maybe placing your camera to the good or left of this position.)

I read a book recently on the trade of Atget photographing the architecture of Paris, and there was an empahsis on the acclaim Atget paid to the human perspective, and the ways Atget reach-me-down camera position to show not just the subject building/bridge/high road/etc., but how people used it and how it related to adjacent areas.

Not that you have to technique it that way, but it's an example of an intention which can help you determine how to approach a affair...
