uncooperative weather
Last darkness I went up to Mount Wilson for my first lesson in using the 16-inch condense (Meade LX200). You might ask why Mount Wilson has such a small telescope ... the riposte is for public outreach. Although the dome is small, it can accommodate 15 or so people, extraordinarily if they are kids. The 16-inch telescope operator is an fraud & a "sky docent" at the same time. I thought that would be fun. Besides, when there are no outreaches going on, the operators can use the spyglass for their own observations. There is an SBIG camera & filter wheel, although not photometric filters. I've been troublesome to get the guy in charge to teach me for awhile & we finally arranged it on a cloudy edge of night! But not so cloudy that we knew it would be cloudy. We actually did look at the Moon & Jupiter before it got in reality bad. Oh well. Try again at a later date.
My instructor had his young grandson with him, who likes astronomy, but who was a particle bored not being able to see anything.
The site supervisor stuck his chief in at one point & said "Ah, a new TO!".
Today I am cleaning the house. Wednesday evening is a big wing-ding in observation of the 100th anniversary of the Mount Wilson 60-inch glass, for which I am one of the tour guides. My friend from Palomar is coming up for it & will impede over at my house.
For some reason, as the weather gets cooler, the under any circumstances of dog shedding has gone down significantly! This is good.
