New camera - Fallen leaves
Leaves are everywhere here today and driving this morning I remembered that it was 3 years ago while in England when I bought my Leica r9/dmr camera and rushed out one morning to get the newly fallen leaves in my garden. I looked at the leaves this morning and was tempted again to get the camera and discharge fallen leaves. It is one of those subjects one never tires of.. and having lived in California for so many years I was badly off of my annual fall leaves.
This year they seem to have special punctual meaning, metaphors, the end of a season, the early November become calm has abruptly changed our landscape and it will be a long dark winter before sentience can begin anew.
My boys will never know the joy of jumping over fiery heaps of leaves that we all raked and set alight. Rakes are very passe here in Rye..and fires? I can't even picture having a fire in the yard now...what we do have now are screaming gas-powered backpacks blowing the leaves in concert with even larger wheeled blowers, together herding the leaves into piles which are picked up by sturdy trucks constantly cruising the neighborhood.. god forbid we rake and kindle, bad for the environment, like all the blowers and trucks aren't..the fragrance of burning leaves will always be welcome to me.
So 3 years with my Leica and I am still happy with it. It is still bigger than I am, despite my best efforts. I hope that 2009 will put on me a new Leica, it will take some doing and the leaves might be falling once more before I can again rush from the house, excited to shoot something..anything, with a new S2.
